img_20161211_101256_738Of the so many problems teething the society, one that gives reason for So much concern is addiction. So many youths have this problem and they can’t seem to help themselves out if it

Addiction embroils yearning for something strongly, loss of control over its use, and continuing involvement with it despite adverse consequences. Addiction is an unhealthy relationship between a person and a mind-altering substance or experience that renders that person unable to quit. Alcoholism, drug addiction, gambling, eating disorders, and sexual excesses. Simply put Addiction is a disease of the extreme. The problem arises when the use of anything becomes extreme, more than usual, or used to side trap reality or as a form of escapism intolerably, then there the problem lie.

Addicts are often secretive about their activity and deceptive when discovered. The thing is most times they feel terrible and helpless hence they deny the existence of the addiction, and the fact that they can’t quit makes it even worse. Isolation typifies addiction. The narrower one’s focus and the more removed from real life and real relationships one’s behavior, the greater the likelihood that he or she is developing an addictive disorder.

We
addiction must create the distinction however between addiction and passion or love for a thing. In order for a behavior to meet the criteria for “addiction” a person has to persist in doing it despite negative consequences. In this way, addiction is defined by the fact that it’s bad when a habit can’t be stopped no matter the results. Its good to have activities we can throw ourselves into for challenge and enjoyment but not to build our lives around such activity.

Although breaking a bad addiction is tough, it can be done. First things first Nobody starts out intending to develop an addiction, but many people get caught in its web.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ADDICTION

Once anything consumes your mind so much that it discomforts your potential to accomplish other things (not just devote time to another activity, but actually reduce your ability to do it even though you want to), it’s an addiction. A bad addiction shuts you down to life’s realities. You may begin to get so much attached that your perspectives around other spheres of life becomes limited.

Finally for the few I can point out, it shuts down your relationships with Family and friends. Man wasn’t created to be alone. Interactivity is a major Essence in life. It makes life beautiful. Mother Theresa suggests that no one Can make any meaningful impact without being at terms with the immediate Environment e.g. the family. Addiction is a cruel taskmaster. Feelings of shame, humiliation and personal failure can be overwhelming. But help is available.

HOW TO OVERCOME ADDICTIONS.

First I must point out that when one visits the house of a strong man with the aim to defeat him, one must first bind the strong man and for one to do that such person must be stronger than the strong man. Addiction here typifies a strong man reason we are bound by it. It wouldnt have been an addiction in the first place if we could help ourselves, but since we cant on our own. Here comes help.

ADMIT THERES A PROBLEM:

Determining whether you have addiction isnt completely straightforward. And admitting it isnt easy, largely because of the stigma and shame associated with addiction. But acknowledging the problem is the first step toward recovery.

SEEK SPIRITUAL HELP:

Jesus said simply, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28). Paul expressed the huge difference spiritual help made in his life in his exultant words, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). Heres one who is willing to help, he’s Jesus. Simply ask him.

CONNECT TO PEOPLE:

By yourself you’re unprotected. With a friend you can face the worst. Can you round up a third? A three-stranded rope isn’t easily snapped. (ECCL4:12) Help is available quit struggling on your own. A mentor maybe.

TAKE THE STEPS TOWARDS FREEDOM:

Make the necessary sacrifices. Be willing to sacrifice whatever it takes to keep lust from controlling you. Realize that its worth it to give up whatever you need to give up to build healthy relationships with God and your family. Stay away from the materials you’re addicted to, having done the above this should come in here.

GET A REFIL:

Life abhors vacuum. Whenever you encounter a temptation, turn away from the thought and connect with by redirecting that thought. Find something positive To fill into that time given to addiction. Pray, read or visit someone. Spend time with real people, talk, walk, smile, leave the spot, it helps.

Don’t allow addictions to wreak havoc and destruction in your life. Decide now that you will seek out the help you need. You can break free from addiction! God bless you.
